The National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for southern Crawford County until 5:30 p.m.
At about 4:38, doppler radar indicated a storm capable of producing quarter-size hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 miles per hour near Meadville traveling east at 20 miles per hour.
Emergency radio traffic indicated that lights were out at significant intersections in Vernon Township.
The National Weather Service is calling this a dangerous storm and advises local residents to seek shelter and keep away from windows. Reports of hail and strong winds can be called in to the National Weather Service at 877-633-6772 when it is safe to do so.
