On Wednesday, District 10 released the both the boys and girls postseason basketball brackets and the local teams now know their routes to championships and trophies. Here’s a summary of what to expect in the playoffs for the local teams.
Class 2A gets started this Friday with four local teams beginning their playoff runs.
Maplewood (8-14) hosts West Middlesex (9-13) with the winner meeting the Region 2 champion Farrell (14-7) on Feb. 21.
Union City (8-14) travels south to take on Wilmington (9-13). The Bears and Greyhounds fight for the right to take on Region 3’s winner Cambridge Springs (19-3).
Also in the opening round, Lakeview (14-8) hosts Saegertown (8-14). The winner in that contest moves on to face Cochranton (7-15) in the quarterfinals.
In Class 4A, Conneaut (8-14) returns to the postseason Friday as the third seed out of Region 5. The Eagles play host to Region 6’s sixth seed Oil City (9-13).
Earlier this season on Dec. 28, 2019 at the CASH Holiday Hoops Tournament, the Oilers won a close one over the Eagles 65-60.
The first boys champion is crowned on Feb. 18 in Class 5A. Meadville and Cathedral Prep meet at Edinboro University. Tip-off for that contest is set for 7 p.m.
The Ramblers won both meetings this year by a combined score of 151-97.
Class 1A boys won’t know its winner until Feb. 28 when the Region 1 champion Jamestown (9-13) matches up once again with Commodore Perry. The Muskies beat the Panthers 47-33 for the school’s first ever District 10 crown last year.
Jamestown’s success continued into this season with a series sweep and a combined score advantage of 94-68.
In Class 2A, the girls tournament gets started on Saturday with Cochranton (13-8) traveling to Hadley to take on Commodore Perry (10-11). The winner takes on Region 4 champion Sharpsville on Feb. 22.
Region 2 champion Maplewood along with Saegertown and Cambridge Springs all received byes to the quarterfinals.
Class 5A also begins Saturday with Meadville (8-14) beginning its playoff campaign against Franklin (7-15). That matchup is at Cochranton High School and tips off at 3 p.m. Region 6 champion Warren awaits the victor in the quarterfinals.
Meadville won both matchups with their region rival this season. On Dec. 12, the ‘Dogs won 57-31 at Franklin. Then on Jan. 16, the Bulldogs won the home game 55-32.
In 3A girls, Lakeview placed second out of Region 4. The Sailors (17-4) earned a bye to the quarterfinals on Feb. 22. There, they’ll take on Girard (16-6), the third seed out of Region 3.
The two teams met back on Dec. 21 with the Yellowjackets taking the win 36-30 in a defensive battle.
