Ty Barzak

Meadville ICC’s Ty Barzak runs home during a game earlier this season against French Creek Valley. Meadville went 12-0 in Crawford-Venango American Legion play during the regular season and begins its quest for the postseason crown today at 6 p.m.

All eyes are on the Meadville Italian Civic Club baseball team as the Crawford/Venango American Legion tournament takes place this weekend. The rest of the league are all looking to unseat the undefeated Clubbers and claim the trophy for themselves.

Meadville enters the tournament riding high with a lot of confidence. The ICC squad swept through the regular season with a perfect 12-0 league record and enter as heavy favorites.

However, claiming the league tournament is a tough task. Last season, for instance, Meadville headed into the CVAL title game unbeaten, only to have French Creek Valley catch fire and win both championship games to take the trophy.

The quest for the 2019 title began Thursday with a play-in game between Lakeview and Titusville. Titusville won it 3-1 to advance to today’s semifinal round. The team will take on Meadville at 6 p.m. at Eldred Glen.

Also today, defending tournament champion FCV opens up at Franklin at 6 p.m. Both teams enter with a 6-6 league record.

The tournament follows a double-elimination format. All games Saturday and Sunday are hosted by Meadville ICC at Eldred Glen, culminating in a championship Sunday.
