VERNON TOWNSHIP — Cochranton Junior-Senior High School and Commodore Perry School District will no longer join forces for baseball and football in 2016, as decided at Monday evening's Crawford County School Board meeting.

The two schools combine for baseball and football due to the small size of the Commodore Perry School District, which serves mostly Mercer County.

Cochranton is currently Class A in football and baseball, but with the PIAA changing classifications changing from four to six groupings starting in 2016-17, staying in a cooperative agreement may cause Cochranton to compete in Class AA, said Donald Wigton, Cochranton High School principal.

The school board voted unanimously, 9-0, to approve ending the agreement for the 2016-17 seasons.
