Meadville’s Jailynn Gilbert registered a dozen points, but the Lady Bulldogs came up just short of Region 5 opponent Grove City on Thursday, 51-47. 

GROVE CITY — Grove City made some crucial free throws in the waning seconds to lift the Eagles to a 51-47 win over Meadville on Thursday in Region 5 girls basketball action.

The Eagles moved to 9-1 overall and 5-1 in Region 5 with the victory. Meadville is now 5-7 overall and 3-2 in the region.

Grove City had a 23-19 lead at halftime. Meadville cut into that lead with a 15-13 advantage in the third quarter and knotted it up at 43-43 with 2:15 left in regulation.

Becca Santom hit a jumper with 1:50 left to push the Eagles back in front. She, Emma Santom and Clara Hannon went a combined 6-for-6 from the free throw line in the final minute and one second to seal the win.

Jaida Speed had 14 points for the Bulldogs. Jailynn Gilbert chipped in with 12 points. Natalia Fontanez-Waid had seven points. 

Becca Santom finished with a game-high 25 points for the Eagles. Hannon and Emma Santom had 12 points each.

Sailors stop Tigers

STONEBORO — Lakeview moved to 9-2 overall and evened its region mark at 1-1 with a 52-18 win over Sharon on Thursday in Region 4 girls basketball action.

Leading the way for the Sailors was Reagan Burke with 15 points. Austa Reed added 12 points.

Sharon fell to 1-10 overall and 0-2 in Region 4.

Tigers topple Bears

GUYS MILLS — Jordan Roser scored a game-high 24 points to lead Maplewood to a 78-40 win over Union City on Thursday in Region 2 girls basketball action.

Roser was one of five players to score at least eight points for the Tigers (10-2, 8-0 Region 2). Sadie Thomas added 13 points. Izzy Eimer and Megan Mangus chipped in with nine points each and Liliane Moorhead had eight points.

Eliza Reynolds paced the Bears (2-10, 0-7) with 13 markers.

Panthers roll Bulldogs

TIDIOUTE — Saegertown bolted out to a 50-12 lead at halftime on its way to a 65-27 win over Tidioute Charter on Thursday in Region 2 girls basketball action.

The Panthers’ balanced offensive attack was led by Mollie Przybrowski. The sophomore hit three 3-pointers and finished with 14 points. Averie Braymer added 11 points and Ava Jones tallied 10 points. Dixie Kindervater chipped in with eight points for Saegertown (8-3, 5-3 Region 2). 

For Tidioute Charter (2-8, 0-7), Nakiesha Krouse had 12 points. Angelina Sabella contributed 11 points.

Trojans top Eagles

MILLCREEK TOWNSHIP — McDowell’s defense proved to be too much for Conneaut. The Trojans held the Eagles to just one point in the first quarter on its way to a 59-27 win over CASH in non-region girls basketball action on Thursday.

Jamie Decker led the Eagles (3-9) with 13 points. Emma Stevenson chipped in with six points.

Julia Miller had 17 points to lead the Trojans (11-3).

Panthers bounce Muskies

JAMESTOWN — Commodore Perry came out firing in the third quarter, outscoring Jamestown 24-5 in the stanza, to break open the game and roll to a 58-36 win during Region 1 girls basketball action on Thursday.

Kaitlyn Hildebran finished with a game-high 19 points to pace the Panthers (5-6, 2-3 Region 1). Brooke Shrock added nine points, while Mackenzie Hause chipped in with eight.

Jocelyn Johnson posted 11 points to lead the Muskies (0-9, 0-5 Region 1). Farah Messai and Jillian McElhinny each tallied nine points for Jamestown.
