With a 76 in tournament action on Tuesday, Meadville senior Ryan Ferry added the Blueberry Hills Invitational trophy to the ones he won at the North Hills Invitational and the Marquette Invitational he’s also won this season.

RUSSELL — Meadville Ryan Ferry collected another tournament trophy on the season, earned the lowest score for the third time with a 4-over par round of 76 at the Blueberry Hills Invitational on Thursday at Blueberry Hill Golf Course in Russell.

Meadville placed sixth among the teams. Jordan Young shot a 101, Kyler Hefner posted a 116, Nick Kaste had a 122 and Marco Petrarca notched a 124 for the Bulldogs.

Warren Blue took first place as a team with a 331 team score. Cathedral Prep (361) and McDowell (381) rounded out the medalists.

Erie edges Eagles

CONNEAUT LAKE — The Erie boys golf team picked up a narrow 180-181 victory over Conneaut Area during a non-region nine-hole dual at Oakland Beach Golf Club on Thursday. 

Medalist ended up in a three-way split, with Conneaut’s Andrew McKalip and Erie’s Cody Nikolai and Kyle Westfall each scoring 43. 

Other lows for CASH (7-2) included Jordan Vaughn with a 44, while Cooper Baum and Jake Welcheck both scored 47.

Bears bounce Sailors

STONEBORO — Union City beat Lakeview in a non-region volleyball matchup 20-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-10 on Thursday night at Lakeview Senior High School.

Union City improves to 8-1 while Lakeview drops to 2-8.

Haven Patten tallied six kills and 20 digs while Reese Gadsby tallied 13 assists for the Sailors. 

Natalie Franke powered the Bears with 12 kills, five aces and nine digs. Cyaira Zielinski tallied 19 assists and 12 digs. Abby Tingley saved 28 digs while Eliza Reynolds recorded 21. Tara Jackson racked up 19 digs and Emma Hopson contributed 17.

 

Thunder blasts Bethel

JAMESTOWN N.Y. — The Calvary Baptist girls volleyball team improved to 6-3 on the season after defeating Bethel of Jamestown, N.Y., 25-2, 25-11, 26-24 on Thursday. 

The Thunder did a lot of its damage from the service line, as Kala Flunt had seven aces, Charity Flint had five, Kennedy Loveland four, Sophia Pugliese three and Kiara Baker two. 

Other stats included seven aces for Pugliese and four kills for Baker. 

 

Eagles sweep Knights

LINESVILLE — The Conneaut Area girls volleyball team rolled past Franklin in a Region 4 match on Thursday night 25-18, 25-6, 25-15 at Conneaut Area Senior High School.

Cassidy Snider powered the Eagles with 16 kills and seven digs. Amber Clark dished out 32 assists. Taylor Kersnick added six kills and Rylee Jones led the defense with 14 digs.

Conneaut is now 7-1 overall and 6-0 in Region 4. Franklin drops to 2-7 overall and 0-6 in region.

 

Saegertown rolls Erie First

ERIE — The Saegertown Panthers girls volleyball team swept Erie First Christian 25-7, 25-14, 25-10 on Thursday night in a Region 3 match.

Saegertown (6-2, 4-1 Region 3) was led by Kaylee Mulligan with 11 kills and eight aces. Brittany Houck contributed six kills.

Ava Jones helped out with 23 assists and Amber Costello had eight digs.

From Tuesday, Saegertown beat Tidioute Charter 25-15, 25-12, 25-8.

 

Tigers best Bison

WATERFORD — Maplewood beat Fort LeBoeuf in a non-region match on Thursday night 28-30, 25-20, 25-15, 25-13 at Fort LeBoeuf Senior High School.

Maggie Thomas paced the Tigers (6-1) with 22 kills and three aces. Chloe Leech added 14 kills and 12 digs while Sadie Thomas added nine kills, four aces and 12 digs.

Bailey Varndell passed 45 assists and Maddie Woge saved 13 digs.

Fort LeBoeuf is now 7-3 overall.

 

Panthers edge Muskies

HADLEY — Commodore Perry snuck past Jamestown in a Region 1 girls volleyball match 23-25, 15-25, 25-22, 25-19, 11-15 on Thursday night at Commodore Perry Senior High School.

The Muskies (2-7, 1-6 Region 1) were led by Morgan Popielarcheck’s 16 kills, nine blocks and 12 digs. Kara McKelvey added 10 kills and seven digs. Delaney Cowger tallied 26 assists and Farah Messai saved 38 digs.

Commodore Perry (7-0, 6-0 Region 1) remains undefeated and in sole possession of first place in Region 1.

 

Hornets sting Bulldogs

HERMITAGE — The Hickory girls volleyball team notched a 25-23, 25-21, 17-25, 25-16 win over Region 4 foe Meadville on Thursday.

Hickory improved to 6-3 overall and 3-3 in the region with the win. Meadville dropped to 4-5 on the year, 3-3 in Region 4.

CONNEAUT LAKE — The Meadville girls golf team beat Conneaut Area in a non-region match 136-157 on Thursday at Oakland Beach Golf Club.

Lauren DeArment led all scorers for the Bulldogs with a 43. Gianna Petrarca and Bella McEnroe both tallied 46s.

For Conneaut, Julianna Jacobs led the way with a 49. Maggie Battles tallied a 51.

Panthers tie Yellowjackets

GIRARD — Saegertown and Girard finished their Region 3 match at a 0-0 draw on Thursday afternoon at Girard High School.

Play was suspended in the first overtime period due to darkness.

Saegertown is 3-4-3 now overall and 2-2-1 in Region 3. Girard moves to 3-6-1 overall and 1-3-1 in region play.

 

Thunder rolls in N.Y.

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — The Calvary Baptist boys soccer team won in a landslide over host Bethel of Jamestown on Thursday, 10-0. 

Jamestown let the first goal in. Then the Thunder (7-1) did the rest. Caleb Mattocks ended the night with four goals. Connor Dahl, Rhett Sanderson, Ben Wise and Joseph Tyson added single goals. Caleb Mattocks, Lucas Mattocks, Camden Maynard and Wise each had assists. 

Simon Jones and Daniel Tyson split time in goal and shared credit for the shutout, making three saves total.

Cougars stun Gators

PITTSBURGH — Allegheny lost a four-set non-conference volleyball match to Chatham 17-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-22 on Thursday night.

Fort LeBoeuf graduate Rebecca MacQuarrie led the Gators defense with 33 digs. Elizabeth Debich tallied 13 kills in the loss.

Olivia D’Andrea racked up 23 assists.

 

Edinboro drops Lock Haven

EDINBORO — The Edinboro women’s volleyball team swept Lock Haven 25-14, 25-17, 26-24 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match on Thursday night.

Edinboro (7-5, 1-0 PSAC) was led on offense by Cierah Jackson’s 14 kills. Alicia Eldredge tallied 31 assists and 10 digs. Bella Burrelli added nine kills and 10 digs.

Lock Haven (6-5, 0-1 PSAC) had seven kills and 12 digs from Breanna McDonald.
