The Meadville Lady Bulldogs have been playing together for the summer and fall and are now ready to embark on a winter tour beginning this evening at the House of Thrills as they take on Central Tech at 5:30 p.m. in the Sertoma Tip-off tournament.

An experienced but young Meadville squad will take the floor under the direction of second-year head coach Darryl Jones, who said his team is anxious to start the season.

“We’ve had some good practices,” Jones said. “They’ve been playing all summer and fall league.”

Two seniors, two juniors and a sophomore will get the start for the ’Dogs against the Falcons.

Leading returning scorer and junior guard Victoria Severo (13.3 ppg.) and junior forward and second-leading scorer Toni Feidler (13.0) will lead the way.

“We’re still a young team but much deeper than we were last year,” Jones said. “I think that will be one of our strengths. Both Victoria and Toni have improved over the year. They are our go-to people.”

Feidler also led the team in rebounding with 10.8 per contest in 2008-09.

Senior guard Emily Mottillo will run the point. She was also a force on the boards with 47 defensive rebounds as a junior.

Sophomore DaQueisha Epps will play forward, along with senior Danielle Cappellino at the other guard position.

“ Emily, the way she plays, is as aggressive as they come,” Jones said. “I feel very comfortable with the other five people who will play (today).”

Jones said forwards Erica and Erin Chandler and Leah Jones, and guards DaQuanda Epps, Leah Jones and Chaykala Lindsey will see time as well.

Jones’ knowledge of Central Tech was limited, but he and his team are focused on their own roles and starting off right.

“I really don’t know that much about (Central) other than somebody said they were young,” Jones said. “I hope we have kind of impressed on the girls that we will treat them like we would any opponent. We will try to get pressure on them and try to get off to a quick start and get a win.”

Saegertown faces Harbor Creek at 4 p.m. in the other half of the tournament’s first round. The winners and losers will face off Saturday in the consolation and championship finals.
