We are writing about two recent articles in the paper about wearing masks. First is the July 3 article about Giant Eagle being named in a lawsuit over the store’s mask policy. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 restrictions, we have felt that Giant Eagle was proactive in taking measures to protect their employees and their customers. Now that Crawford County is in the green, many stores (for example Home Depot) have relaxed their restrictions and no longer keep track of how many customers are entering and whether they are wearing masks or not. This has not been true for Giant Eagle and we feel their continued vigilance is keeping their employees and customers safer.
Second is the July 4 article on people giving opinions about wearing a mask. We do not have a problem with wearing a mask in public places and we have found that most people do wear a mask. If someone has a medical condition that prevents them from wearing a mask or they simply do not want to wear a mask, Giant Eagle, along with many stores and restaurants, offers curbside service or delivery. We do not understand why people who do not want to wear a mask in public places feel it is OK to put themselves and others at risk when these services are available to everyone.
