I have spent over 30 years in law enforcement in Crawford County and the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. I was a Pennsylvania State Policeman for 25 years. The last 10 years of my career, I served as sergeant and second in command at the Pennsylvania State Police Meadville barracks, in charge of 52 enlisted and civilian employees. After a three-year retirement, I went to work for Sheriff Nick Hoke and the Crawford County Sheriff's Office as a deputy sheriff. I retired last year after five-plus years of service.

My unique positions as a police supervisor tasked with numerous administrative and field duties, and then later as a deputy sheriff having worked daily with all Crawford County Sheriff’s personnel, give me a firsthand viewpoint and perspective on the performance and qualities of the current candidates for Crawford County sheriff.

I am a man of integrity, established and cemented when I took my oath of office with the state police, and then reaffirmed when I was sworn in as a Crawford County Sheriff's Office deputy. Hence, I feel compelled to share my opinion to The Meadville Tribune readership.

I fully endorse Chief Deputy Neil Fratus for election to the position of Crawford County sheriff. I do not socialize with Chief Deputy Fratus, nor am I a personal friend or have any familial connection to him.

I know that Chief Deputy Fratus has ably assisted Sheriff Hoke with the sheriff’s duties when he was unavailable to do them or conflicts in scheduling occurred. I know that Chief Deputy Fratus is familiar with all the duties of sheriff and could transition into that role smoothly without further training or assistance.

I know that Chief Deputy Fratus was always considered the heir apparent for sheriff, is a good family man and a man of integrity, has over 13 years experience in the office serving dutifully as deputy sheriff, lieutenant and chief deputy sheriff, and is extremely and entirely qualified to capably fulfill the duties of the office of Crawford County sSheriff.
