I am writing in answer to the Sunday Sound-off regarding the new voting machines. You can blame the state of Pennsylvania (your legislators, actually) for the new law mandating voting machines with a paper trail, but not the Crawford County Board of Elections. I commend Gina Chatfield and the rest of the board for getting these machines in place this year so that we have a couple of elections to get used to them before the craziness of the 2020 presidential election!
I also take exception to the statement that they are more complicated than the old ones. In this day and age when almost everyone has a phone or tablet that they "swipe" to get from one screen to another, the new machines should be easy to adjust to as they work the same way. You can also make the type font larger for easier reading, and can make the words white on a black background if that is better for you than black on a white background.
As a poll worker, I look forward to helping our voters, especially the older ones (like me), become acquainted with the new voting machines.
