A Cochranton man has been charged with two counts of homicide and other charges for allegedly killing his stepmother and his half-brother back in August in Randolph Township.

Jack E. Turner, 21, is accused by Pennsylvania State Police of killing Shannon Whitman and Darrin Whitman on Aug. 10, 2019, at the home of Scott, Shannon and Darrin Whitman at 13185 State Highway 198 near Guys Mills.

Turner is the son of Scott Whitman, according to Crawford County District Attorney Francis Schultz.

“Today’s charges are the result of an almost two month investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police and the Crawford County Office of District Attorney into the murders of Shannon Whitman and Darrin Whitman,” Schultz said.

“Many Pennsylvania State Police troopers worked tirelessly during the investigation of these brutal murders,” Schultz said. “The members of the criminal investigation unit of the Pennsylvania State Police should be commended for their excellent work in this case.”

Turner had been considered a person of interest in the death of the woman and child.

Turner had been charged by state police at Meadville with theft for allegedly taking a vehicle from the Whitman home on Aug. 10.

He was arrested Aug. 14 in Charleston, W.Va., by the U.S. Marshal Service and Charleston Police Department on the Crawford County warrant. Turner waived an extradition hearing in Charleston on Aug. 21, clearing the way for his return to Crawford County on Aug. 28. Turner has been held in the Crawford County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000 in the theft case since his return to the county.

Turner was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Rita Marwood at 1:45 p.m. today on two counts of homicide, one count of burglary and four counts of theft today via video conference from the jail.

The homicide counts are a non-bondable offense.

Turner is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on the homicide charges Oct. 21 in Titusville before Magisterial District Judge Amy Nicols.
