EAST FALLOWFIELD TOWNSHIP — A Conneaut Lake area man was injured when he crashed his motorcycle trying to avoid a collision with a minivan in southern Crawford County Sunday night, Pennsylvania State Police at Meadville said.

Mike R. Duricic, 49, of Conneaut Lake was flown from the crash scene on Atlantic Lake Road to UPMC Hamot following the 7:50 p.m. crash, police said. The crash site was about 3 miles north of Atlantic on Atlantic Lake Road at its intersection with West Calvin Road.

Duricic was suspected to have serious injuries and was not wearing a helmet, police said.

According to police, Cheryl A. Melvin, 70, of Greenville, was driving north on Atlantic Lake Road in a minivan, traveling at approximately 20 mph as the van was following an Amish buggy.

Duricic was traveling “at a high rate of speed” and crested the top of a hill, police said.

Duricic attempted to stop and put the motorcycle into a skid, police said.

The motorcycle slid and flipped onto its right side, throwing Duricic from the motorcycle in the process with Duricic then hitting the van, police said.

Melvin and a passenger in her van, Norman D. Melvin, 70, of Greenville, weren’t injured and both were wearing seat belts, police said.
