BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP — A 49-year-old Sharon man was flown via medical helicopter to UPMC Hamot in Erie for serious injuries on Tuesday following a one-vehicle crash that took place a little east of Canadotha Lake, according to Pennsylvania State Police at Corry.
Route 8 in Bloomfield Township was closed from Route 77 to Lake Road for several hours Tuesday due to the crash, which took place around 2:30 p.m. just north of Dutch Hill Road on Route 8.
State police was dispatched to what it describes as a single commercial vehicle crash that was the result of the vehicle crossing over the yellow lines while traveling south. The vehicle went off the east side of the roadway and traveled along an embankment before it impacted a group of trees along the embankment. After making impact, the vehicle flipped onto its roof and slid a short distance along the roadway until it came to final rest, according to state police.
The driver had to be mechanically removed from the vehicle. State police did not provide the driver's name.
Assisting at the scene were Spartansburg and Union City volunteer fire departments and the state's Department of Transportation and Department of Environmental Protection.
