The Meadville area can expect some snow this afternoon, but areas north of Meadville are seeing some significant winter weather today as the first arctic air blast of the season moves through the Great Lakes region.

The Meadville area is expected to get 1 to 3 inches of snow today and another 1 to 2 inches tonight, according to the National Weather Service.

However, travel to the north will be treacherous today.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Erie County until 10 p.m. with heavy lake effect snow forecast for that county.

Some areas of Erie County already had 6 to 9 inches of snow by 9 a.m. today with additional snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches forecast, according to the National Weather Service. It’s also windy in Erie County with gusts as high as 35 miles per hour.

A winter storm warning for heavy lake effect snow means significant amounts of lake effect snow are forecast that will make travel very hazardous or impossible.
