VERNON TOWNSHIP — Prior to sunrise Oct. 17, the roundabout at the "Big I" intersection may be fully operational.
Nighttime paving is scheduled to start Oct. 14 at the roundabout at the intersection of routes 6, 322, 19 and 98, according to PennDOT.
The work is expected to be completed over three nights, weather permitting. Paving operations will run nightly from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., starting at 6 p.m. Oct. 14 and ending at 6 a.m. Oct. 17.
PennDOT did not indicate if there will be any road closures or disruptions of traffic during the nighttime paving.
Once the paving is complete, final pavement markings will be painted, and the roundabout will open as a fully functioning multi-lane roundabout, PennDOT reported in a press release.

The roundabout project is designed to improve safety and traffic flow at the intersection. It includes upgrades to drainage, highway lighting and signs, as well as new sidewalks and curb ramps, all within the footprint of the former signalized intersection. The project is expected to be completed by Oct. 25, weather permitting.
The intersection is currently open as a single-lane roundabout. The multi-lane roundabout project is contracted to cost $6.1 million, paid entirely with federal funds, according to PennDOT.
