Meadville Area Senior High senior Kendra L. Hamilton has been named a finalist for the National Merit Scholarship Program, according to Barry Anderson, senior class guidance counselor at MASH.
“We haven’t had one of those in quite some time,” Anderson said.
Students become eligible for the scholarship program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, according to the program’s website. The program receives approximately 1.6 million entrants each year. Approximately 15,000 qualify as finalists like Hamilton. About half of the finalists will go on to receive scholarships for $2,500 per year.
Hamilton will likely learn whether she will receive a scholarship in March, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation website.
