A Saegertown man found experiencing an apparent drug overdose in a roadside ditch faces charges for illegal possession of a firearm as a result of the weekend incident.
Anthony L. Hutchinson, 27, of the 18,600 block of Oak Drive was discovered unresponsive alongside Pond Drive in Hayfield Township, according to the criminal complaint filed by state police in the case. When state police arrived at the scene at approximately 4 p.m. Saturday, Hutchinson had already been transported to Meadville Medical Center.
Emergency medical personnel from Hayfield Township Volunteer Fire Department reported that a pistol had been discovered on Hutchinson as he was being treated, according to the criminal complaint. Upon inspection of the Raven P-25 semi-automatic handgun, the responding trooper found that the weapon’s serial number had been obliterated.
A check of Hutchinson’s criminal record further revealed that he was not licensed to carry a firearm and was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to a previous felony conviction, according to police.
Hutchinson was arraigned Sunday before Magisterial District Judge Samuel Pendolino.
He faces felony charges of possession of firearm prohibited, possession of firearm with manufacturer’s number altered and firearms not to be carried without a license.
A preliminary hearing in the case was scheduled before Magisterial District Judge Lincoln Zilhaver on Oct. 11.
Hutchinson remains in Crawford County jail in lieu of $20,000 bond.
