SHARON, Mercer County — The League of Women Voters of Mercer County is sponsoring a free, open-to-the-public program titled "Shale Update: Public Health Issues" The program is set for the Community Library of the Shenango Valley on Feb. 20 at 2 p.m.
The program is available through the League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania-Citizen Education Fund’s “Straight Scoop on Shale” project, which is funded by a grant from the Colcom Foundation.
The program’s speaker is Jill Kriesky, associate director of the Southwest Pennsylvania Environmental Health Project.
Kriesky’s presentation will provide a general overview of the mission of the Health Project. She will also provide information on the state of research on health impacts which could be plausibly linked to unconventional oil and gas development, including exploratory data collection and analysis conducted by the Health Project. This presentation will also include a discussion of the value of establishing a health registry related to unconventional oil and gas development in Pennsylvania.
All those attending the program will receive a copy of the League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania’s most recent edition of the “Shale Gas Extraction and Public Health Resource Guide."
