CHERRYTREE TOWNSHIP, Venango County — Firefighters from around the region remembered the loss of one of their own during this year’s Crawford - Venango Counties Fire School.

“They’re doing this with a heavy heart this weekend,” said Chip Chiappazzi, chief of Harborcreek Volunteer Fire Department and a state fire instructor. “They lost Bill Prince.”

Prince, a longtime member of the Fellows Club Volunteer Fire Department of Conneautville, president of the Crawford County Fireman’s Association and instructor for the fire school, died June 3 at age 59.

The association and school committee members presented Prince’s sons, Todd and Brian, with plaques commemorating their father on Saturday, according to committee member John Bauer. He said the county association plans to appoint a new president during their Jan. 2008 reorganization.

“It’s going to be an awful big pair of shoes to fill,” said Bauer. Prince “spent a lot of hours, and did a lot of things behind the scenes” in service to firefighting in and around Crawford County .
