With under four hours remaining, the annual food drive to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania so far remains below 6,000 pounds of nonperishable food donated.
As of 2:45 p.m. 5,800 pounds of nonperishable items had been donated along with $8,255 in monetary donations and 66 frozen turkeys.
The Meadville Tribune is one of the host drop off sites in northwest Pennsylvania for today’s drive for Second Harvest. The drive-up site is in the Tribune’s parking lot off Arch Street, between Park Avenue and South Main Street until 6:30 p.m. today.
The Tribune partners annually with Erie TV stations WICU/WSEE, COOL 101.7 FM of Meadville to promote the drive, which takes place at sites throughout the region.
All the food, turkeys and supplies collected stay in the area benefiting Second Harvest’s member agencies including St. John Missionary Baptist Food Pantry, Center for Family Services Food Pantry, Salvation Army Food Pantry, Linesville Food Pantry, United Faith Fellowship Food Pantry and Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Food Pantry, according to Second Harvest officials.
Each dollar donation to Second Harvest buys five meals.
