SUMMIT TOWNSHIP — A Linesville area man has died following a hunting accident this morning not far from Conneaut Lake Park.

Jacob S. Smith, 19, was hunting with friends at 12460 Gordon Road in Summit Township when he was fatally wounded by his own gun, Pennsylvania State Polilce at Meadville said.

The incident took place around 8:20 a.m., about a mile northwest of Conneaut Lake Park amusement park.

Smith was removing items from a hunting sled when his shotgun accidentally went off with shotgun pellets striking Smith in the abdomen, Scott Schell, Crawford County coroner, told the Tribune this afternoon.

Smith was taken to Meadville Medical Center were he was pronounced dead.

Schell ruled Smith’s death accidental due to a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Conneaut Lake and Meadville ambulance services and Summit Township and Conneaut Lake volunteer fire departments were called to the scene to assist state police and officers from the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
