Allegheny College is the beneficiary of a one-time grant for $29,750 from the Erie Community Foundation, according to an announcement made Thursday.

The money is a COVID-19 Rapid Response grant and is aimed at supporting the Lake Effect Leaders AmeriCorps Volunteers Service to America (VISTA) Project. The project aims to help nonprofit organizations in the region with battling poverty and improving educational opportunities for children and youth.

The money will subsidize the cost of 20 AmericCorps VISTA members to serve at the college.
