VERNON TOWNSHIP —
Construction is finally under way for the Plaza Express Carwash, slated to open as early as late fall, according to Scott Phillis, owner of South Park Place Inc.
Phillis’ company is acting as the general contractor for the one-story car wash, the foundation of which is laid next to Davita Dialysis on the Smock Bridge end of Park Avenue Plaza.
“It’s quite a substantial project; we broke ground last week,” Phillis said. “Around this time of year, weather becomes a factor, but we’re hoping to be done (around) Thanksgiving.”
The total costs for the projected 2,100 square-foot building may run up to $700,000 or $800,000, according to Terry Wygle, car wash co-owner, who plans to run the business with her husband and three children.
The building’s opening is contingent not only on the construction, but the shipment, installation and testing of equipment, Wygle added.
“I liked the idea of a family-owned and operated (car wash),” she said. “We’re hoping for a several-day grand opening in late November or early December.”
Wygle hopes to operate seven days a week with one full-time attendant and offer a variety of services with the capacity for full-size vans and light trucks
“We’re hoping to run weekly specials and partner with community fundraisers,” she said. “I’m also thrilled about the location.”
Estimating a three-minute wash for most cars, Wygle expects her future business will be quick and convenient for shoppers and workers in the plaza.
