  • SLIDESHOW: Track and field pictures
    Two recent track and field events involving area schools were covered by Meadville Tribune photographer Richard Sayer recently. "It is very difficult to cover track and field get quality pictures of everything." Sayer admits. During the two recent events Sayer tried to focus on a few key events that were being covered by the sports writers in order to try to capture the best pictures he could to tell the story of the effort athletes put into their sport. The images in this slideshow are just a few of the moments and scenes Sayer saw.

    The Moving Wall, a one-half scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., will be exhibited on campus Thursday through May 5.

  • AUDIO SLIDESHOW: World T'ai Chi Day
    T'ai Chi instructor Cootie Harris held the 10th annual Meadville celebration of World T'ai Chi and Qigong Day in Diamond Park Saturday. T'ai Chi is a Chinese martial art widely practiced around the world to promote health and longevity. According Harris it is the most widely practiced exercise in the world.

    Former President Bill Clinton visited Meadville Saturday. It is only the second time in recent history — if ever — that a former president spoke in Crawford County. The first was the late Gerald Ford when he was keynote speaker at a Meadville Area Chamber of Commerce dinner in 1983.

  • SLIDESHOW: AIDS Awareness Walk at Allegheny
    “Of the 40,000 new cases of AIDS in the United States each year, half are from people under the age of 25,” said Joe Dichristina following the hour-long walk around Allegheny College. “The event (Saturday) is a reminder to students that they have a responsibility to carry out the message about the epidemic.”
    DiChristina, who is the dean of student affairs at Allegheny College, was one of about 150 walkers who hiked throughout the campus in an event that brings to close a year-long campaign to raise awareness of AIDS in the community.

  • SLIDESHOW: First Day of Trout season
    Pennsylvania’s regular trout season runs 24 hours daily through Labor Day with a limit of five trout per day. The extended season runs from Labor Day through February in approved trout waters with a limit of three trout per day. Approved trout waters include streams, lakes, ponds and reservoirs with significant portions that are open to public fishing and are stocked by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.

    The fire at the 115-year-old amusement park that destroyed the Dreamland Ballroom was discovered about 2 a.m. by emergency medical technicians en route back to Conneaut Lake from a car accident at Conneautville, according to George Deshner, the park’s general manager.
