College Soccer: Allegheny falls to Thomas More 2-1 in NCAA opener

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. — The Allegheny women’s soccer team’s run in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament came to an end Saturday, as the Gators fell to Thomas More College 2-1 in the opening round at The Bank of Kentucky Field in Cresview Hills, Kentucky.

The win moved the Saints to 18-1-2, while the Gators wrapped up their season with an 11-6-4 mark.

Thomas More struck first when senior Courtney Clark scored off a throw in from Olivia Huber at the 27:07 mark to put the Saints ahead 1-0. The Saints added to their lead in the second half when Huber scored from an assist by Kristie Reilman to make it 2-0 at the 77:16 mark.

Allegheny finally got on the board when Jessie Thiessen scored from an Liana Leja assist at 89:33 to cut the lead in half, but it was too late as the Gators were unable to mount the comeback.

Thomas More outshot the Gators 14-6 in the game, with the Saints holding the edge in corner kicks 7-2.

Allegheny keeper Gabby Curtis make four saves in the losing effort, while Thomas More keeper Megan Barton made four saves for the Saints.
