USGA selects Smith
FAR HILLS, N.J. — Allegheny College graduate Nathan Smith was selected by the United States Golf Association to represent the U.S. in the prestigious 2013 Walker Cup.
The Walker Cup is an international match competition considered the pinnacle of amateur golf.
This is the third time Smith will compete in the Walker Cup, which is held Sept. 7-8 at the National Golf Links in Southampton, N.Y. The United States’ foursome will play against Great Britain and Ireland over the two-days event.
Smith captured the 2013 Pennsylvania Match Play Amateur Championship on July 10 at Huntingdon Valley Country Club. Earlier this season, he also competed in his third Masters. And he turned in top-20 performances at the Jones Cup and the Azalea Amateur.
