District 10 fared pretty well in the first round of the PIAA girls volleyball championships on Tuesday night as three of its four teams picked up wins and a spot in the Elite Eight in their respective classifications.
Maplewood secured the district’s last spot Tuesday at Cochranton High School with a four-set win over West Shamokin.
“This next round is a big round for District 10 volleyball,” Tigers head coach Sheila Bancroft said following the victory. “Three great matches. It would be pretty awesome if we could all play at the same venue.”
The PIAA granted that wish.
The quarterfinal schedule was released Wednesday morning and all three remaining District 10 squads will play at Sharpsville High School.
Action begins at noon with a Class A contest between District 10 champion Maplewood and District 9 champion Clarion, ranked No. 1 in the state in Class A by the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association.
At 2 p.m., District 10 Class AA champion Fort LeBoeuf will take on WPIAL runner-up and top-ranked Hopewell. That will be followed by a 4 p.m. matchup with District 10 runner-up Meadville and WPIAL champion Mars.
