Blue Devils spikers outlast Tigers

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS — The Maplewood and Cambridge Springs boys volleyball teams squared off in a scorcher on Thursday night, with two of the four games going into extras.

It was Cambridge Springs taking the match, however, defeating the visiting Tigers 25-19, 25-27, 25-13, 26-24.

Leading Cambridge Springs (2-1) was Devin Walker with 10 kills and seven blocks. Alex Mailliard had nine kills. Tyler Fiely followed with seven while Robbie Spence had six. Austin Porter also had six kills to go along with seven blocks. Jarred Ferris tied it all together with 37 assists.

For Maplewood (0-3), Evan Mehok finished with nine kills while Dustin Delo added eight. Jeremy Dahl contributed 20 assists and Dane Barker 20 digs. Miller Peters chipped in with four aces.



LeBoeuf rallies past CASH

WATERFORD — The Fort LeBoeuf boys volleyball team fell behind to Conneaut 2-0 before rallying to take the next three games to notch an exciting 24-26, 23-25, 25-23, 25-11, 15-8 victory over the Eagles.

Andrew Hicks had a big game at the net for the Bison (3-1) with 18 kills. Travis Pietkiewicz led the squad on defense, recording 21 digs.

For Conneaut (0-3), Brett White and Zac Blore led the way with seven kills each.



Panthers top Steelers

FARRELL — Farrell bounced back from a 25-7 loss in Game 1 with a 25-20 victory in the second set, but Saegertown was able to hold on for 3-1 win over the Steelers on Thursday in Region 1 boys volleyball action.

The Panthers won Games 3 and 4, 25-17 and 25-15, respectively.

Alex and Brendon Barclay led the Panthers with 14 kills each. Trevor Pavlik dished out 31 assists and added six digs. Garrett Johnston also had six digs.

Saegertown won the JV match 25-20, 25-14.



Bulldogs survive Trojans

Meadville dropped the first two sets, but rallied back to beat McDowell 17-25, 15-25, 25-20, 25-23, 16-14 on Thursday in Region 1 boys volleyball action.

Meadville coach Ron Newman acknowleged the play of Joe Coffee, Sam Wyman and freshman setter Nick Rose, who stepped up in the absence of Tom Leech. No statistics were available.

Meadville won the JV match 25-23, 25-13.



Cards roll over Orioles

COCHRANTON — Cochranton needed little time to take care of visiting Rocky Grove on Thursday in Region 1 boys volleyball action. The Cardinals won 25-6, 25-6, 25-12.

Nick Dickson had 20 assists. Logan Herzberger tallied six kills and five digs. Nate Wigton added five kills, while Josh Vanderhoof added five digs.

Cochranton won the JV match 2-0.
