GROVE CITY — The Lakeview and Mercer golf teams finished the front nine at Pine Grove Golf Course tied at 183 strokes each. The two low scores from both teams — turned in by Mercer’s Mark Peters and Lakeview’s Chris Palutro — were both 41s.

So the tiebreaker went to the second lowest score, which belonged to Mercer’s Nate Guiler, who shot a 42. So that gave the win to the Mustangs, during a Region 1 dual meet on Thursday.

Lakeview’s second-low score was a 47, shot by both Keith Kepner and Austin Milliren.

The loss drops Lakeview to 1-3 in Region 1 dual matches.

Bears struggle in Erie

ERIE — The Union City boys golf team dropped to 2-2 on the season Thursday as Fairview proved to be too much on its home course, as the Tigers earned the victory with a 170-198 win at Lake Shore Country Club.

It wasn’t the Bears’ strongest outing of the year, as just one golfer, Troy Jackson, was able to break into the 40’, shooting a 42.

Fairview’s Nate Stuck carded a medalist round of 39 to lead the Tigers to the win.

Jamestown falls at home to Greenville

JAMESTOWN — Despite Jake Reaugh shooting a medalist round of 38, the Jamestown boys golf team was unable to knock off Greenville Thursday, as the Trojans knocked off the Muskies, 183-204.

All four Greenville golfers shot in the 40s, while Jamestown’s next best score after Reaugh’s 38 was 53, turned in by Christ Shultz. Shannon Potter (54) and Trey Lamont (59) rounded out the field for the Muskies.

Greenville’s Nick Deitlich turned in the Trojans’ lowest round of the day, carding a 42.

McDowell led the way with 178 strokes. Meadville was second with 194 strokes. Warren (226) and Strong Vincent (263) rounded out the team scores.
