Breese leads local hopefuls in Sharon

MEADVILLE — For Lakeview heavyweight Sam Breese, this weekend’s Class AA Northwest Regional tournament marks yet another step in his defense of last season’s state championship.

Meanwhile, there are 26 other area wrestlers competing at regionals that are looking to forge their first state title run.

Their journey continues today when the regional championships kick off at 5:15 p.m. at Sharon High School.

The top three wrestlers in each weight class will advance to next week’s PIAA Class AA championship tournament at The Giant Center in Hershey. The rest will see their seasons come to a close.

A few are looking for a return trip to states, like Saegertown’s Nick Monico (138) and Matt Humes (145), who were both third at regions last year; Conneaut’s Kyle Lukowich (132) and Cochranton’s Robert Boozer (152), who were both region runners-up last year; and Saegertown’s Tyler Vath (132) and Dylan Reynolds (182) and the aforementioned Breese (285), who each won a region title a year ago.

The latest proposed expansion plan for the Crawford County Courthouse potentially would eliminate the former Tarr Mansion on Diamond Park to make room for a county administrative building. Should the 1860 mansion be demolished?

Leave it alone because it’s historic.
Try to incorporate it into the proposed expansion.
It’s too far gone to save, but it’s memory may be preserved with an artifacts and photo display within the proposed courthouse complex.
