Local Briefs: McCoy scores 22 to lead Lady Bulldogs past Colonels

MEADVILLE — Meadville’s Cadi McCoy lit up the scoreboard for 22 points as the Lady Bulldogs rolled past Strong Vincent during a non-region girls basketball game on Saturday at the House of Thrills.

The Bulldogs, now 4-12 on the season, won every quarter, including a 17-9 third quarter which blew the game open.

After McCoy’s 22, Kiashiah Newsome recorded 13 points, knocking down a trio of 3-pointers. Tomera Schweter chipped in with nine points.

Leading Vincent (2-12) was Deja Dixon with 11 points while Hevyn Johnson scored 10.

Bears topple Panthers

ERIE — A big second quarter pushed the Union City boys basketball team ahead by nine points by halftime, and the Bears would increase that lead before knocking off Saegertown at the Erie Insurance Arena Saturday in non-region basketball action.

Union City held a two point lead after the first quarter before outscoring the Panthers 21-14 in the second frame.

Saegertown couldn’t close the gap, as the Bears outscored the Panthers 23-17 the rest of the way.

Leading the charge for Union City was Lucas Dougherty, who finished with a game-high 21 points. Drake Burgess wasn’t far behind, totaling 17 points in the win.

For Saegertown, Scott Sada led the way with 16 points.
