Brandon Rice and Matt Partridge were a combined 11 of 15 from the field for 29 points to lead Lakeview to a 57-38 win over Iroquois on Friday in non-region boys basketball action.
Rice led the Sailors (6-9) with 15 points, while Partridge added 14 points. Zach VanDusen had seven assists.
Iroquois fell to 1-15 with the loss.
Cards slip past Devils
CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS — After fighting to a 38-38 tie through three quarters, Cochranton finally put Cambridge Springs away in the final stanza to capture a 59-53 Region 3 boys basketball victory on Friday.
Garrett Adams finished with a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double to lead the Cardinals (10-2, 7-0 Region 3). Josh Vanderhoof added 10 points, while Nick Dickson chipped in with eight.
Josh Huff tallied 21 points to pace the Blue Devils (5-9, 5-3). Scott Duda contributed 10 points and Austin Porter 10 rebounds in the loss.
CLA upends Calvary
Silas McFall exploded for 31 points to lead Christian Life Academy to a 64-57 overtime win over Calvary Baptist during New Penn Christian Athletic League boys basketball action on Friday.
Colton Tapper poured in 23 markers to pace the Thunder (8-7, 4-2 NPCAL), while Jared McCrillis posted a 14-points, 19-rebound double-double. Jacob Hough added 14 points in the loss.
Pjecha hits game-winner
Susanna Pjecha’s buzzer-beating layup capped a remarkable comeback by Calvary Baptist as it beat Christian Life Academy 50-48 on Friday in New Penn Christian Athletic League girls basketball action.
Calvary trailed 41-33 going into the fourth quarter, but outscored CLA 17-7. Pjecha finished the game with 16 points, seven rebounds, nine steals and three assists. Brooke Lewandowski had 22 points and 11 rebounds. Tabbie Eicher had nine rebounds for the Thunder (7-6, 5-2 NPCAL).
Humes leads Panthers
SAEGERTOWN — With a spot in the District 10 Class AA team duals already wrapped up, Friday night’s Region 3 wrestling match at Saegertown High School was all about the Panthers’ lone senior Matt Humes.
Humes won his final match at Saegertown with a fall over Aaron Hoover in 3:13 at 145 pounds to lead the Panthers to a 51-21 win over Youngsville on Senior Night. Humes’ fall started off the night and was followed by four pins in Saegertown’s next five bouts.
Lance Neuscheler (152 pounds), Garrett Zuver (160), Dylan Reynolds (182) and Zack Stafford (195) all recorded falls for the Panthers as did Tyler Vath at 132 pounds. In another bout of note for the Panthers, Bingbong Elizon pumped up a weight class and defeated Youngsville’s Chester Ciukaj at 126 pounds.
Saegertown (10-5, 8-1 Region 3) and Youngsville (8-6, 6-3) are among the eight teams who will compete in the District 10 Class AA team championships on Feb. 1 at Sharon High School.
