St. Ignatius forward Beck Schultz had a hat trick, helping the Wildcats claim a 6-0 victory over Cathedral Prep during Friday night’s action at the Meadville Bulldog Hockey Invitation at the George S. DeArment Ice Arena.
Schultz scored back-to-back goals in the second period to make it a 4-0 game and also scored the final goal of the match.
Also scoring for the Wildcats were Connor Koehnke, Ethan Whitney and Aidan Spellacy.
Ignatius goalkeeper Dylan McKeon needed just 11 stops to post the shutout victory.
Prep’s goalie Grant Kennedy, on the other hand, had a busy night, facing 54 shots on goal, including 12 in the first period, 18 in the second and 24 in the third. He stopped 48 of those shots.
St. Ed trims USC
St. Edward’s Curtis Szelesta broke a 1-1 tie in the third period with back-to-back goals during the final seven minutes as the Eagles defeated Upper St. Clair 3-0 on Friday night at the Meadville Bulldog Hockey Invitational.
St. Edward got on the board first when Collin Mitchell scored on a power play in the first period.
That’s how the score would stay until a minute into the third when USC’s Austin Cassidy tied it up with a goal past Eagles keeper Warren Hill.
But with a USC player in the box for tripping, Szelesta scored on a power play to push St. Edward in front. About three minutes later, Szelesta returned to the Panthers’ goal with an unassisted tally.
