Don Granda Jr. in search of elusive 100

Can Don Granda Jr. reach 100? That is the question circulating through the local bowling waves as Granda Jr. once again demonstrated his greatness with two 300 games in a six-day span at Lakeside Lanes.

On Dec. 4, Granda Jr. — aka Mr. 300 — rolled games of 300, 280 and 211 for a 791 in the Wednesday Nighters League.

Then, last Monday in the Stewart’s Classic League at LL, the left-handed legend opened again with a perfect game and followed with two 235 games for a 770.

The amazing Granda Jr. now has 81 career 300 games. Is the magical number 100 in his mind?

“Yeah,” he said. “When I bowled my 60th 300 game about five years ago, I began thinking about 100 and I set that as my goal.”

At age 42, Granda Jr. definitely has a shot at 100 perfectos. In his previous dominating years, Granda Jr. averaged about five 300 games per year. During one year, the Lakeside Lanes co-proprietor tossed seven gems.

As for 800 career series, Granda Jr. has 68.

Numbers never lie: Granda Jr. is the greatest ever in WCCBA history.

Plaza punisher

Duane Heim had his hooking ball working in recent weeks at Plaza Lanes.

Finishing with 243 and 279 games, Heim rolled a 743 series in the Plaza Men’s League. A week earlier, the right-hander shot a 268 game and 701 set.

In other action at PL. Rob Benge just missed being a multiple 700 roller. The right-hander fired 279 and 255 games for a 749 in the Commercial League and just missed the following week with a 699.

The rising Benge is averaging a scorching 226 in the Commercial League.

Dodsons dominate

Making a strong case to dethrone the Hanks (Harry and Natalie) as the top husband-and-wife duo, Josh and Stacey Dodson were in their typical dominating fashion last week.

Josh Dodson had the pins flying in the Stewart’s Classic League at Lakeside Lanes with games of 242, 258 and 251 for a 751.

Dodson did her damage in the Found Lounge Scratch League at Lost Lanes. Crushing the 1-3 pocket, the right-handed Dodson shot games of 244, 225 and 200 for a 669.

Speaking of Natalie Hanks, the high-scoring, right-hander flirted with another 700 series as she threw 279 and 232 games for a 693 in the Wednesday Night Ladies League at Lost Lanes.

Hanks also excelled in the Sunday Found Lounge Mixed League with a 265 game and 649 total.

The latest proposed expansion plan for the Crawford County Courthouse potentially would eliminate the former Tarr Mansion on Diamond Park to make room for a county administrative building. Should the 1860 mansion be demolished?

Leave it alone because it’s historic.
Try to incorporate it into the proposed expansion.
It’s too far gone to save, but it’s memory may be preserved with an artifacts and photo display within the proposed courthouse complex.
