Davenport, YellowJackets sting Lancers

EDINBORO — Girard outscored General McLane 16-11 in the fourth quarter with the help of two 3-point baskets by Lauren Davenport on its way to a 40-35 win on Thursday in Region 4 girls basketball action.

The Yellow Jackets took a 13-7 lead after the first quarter, but the Lancers turned the tables in the second and headed into the locker room tied 20-20. At the end of three, the score was tied 24-24.

Girard and McLane combined for five 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. The Lancers finished with seven for the game. Katie Rodrigues had four of them and finished with 20 points total.

The Lancers fell to 13-2 overall and 7-1 in Region 4. Girard is now 10-4 overall and 6-2 in the region.



Eagles upend Knights

LINESVILLE — The Conneaut girls basketball team jumped out to a huge lead and never looked back, knocking off Region 3 opponent Eisenhower at home Thursday night, 55-28.

The Eagles took a commanding 21-0 lead by the end of the first quarter, and led 28-13 at halftime. Conneaut held tough in the second half as well, outscoring Eisenhower 26-15 in the second half for the win.

Conneaut was led by Kristen Baker, who finished with 12 points. Challen Litwiler added 11 points while Libby Clement chipped in with seven.



Tigers claw Bears

UNION CITY — Katie Sundberg put forth a dominant effort to lead Fairview to a 62-30 win over Union City during Region 4 girls basketball action Thursday.

Sundberg finished with a game-high 25 points to lead the Tigers (9-6, 5-3 Region 4). Roni Lipinski added 16 points, while Holly Linkoski chipped in with eight.

Sarah Toy tallied 17 points to pace the Bears (1-12, 0-7).



Wrestling



Lakeview rolls over Rock


SLIPPERY ROCK — On Wednesday, the Lakeview wrestling team won four of seven contested bouts and received five forfeit victories while rolling over Region 1 opponent Slippery Rock 51-15.

Picking up wins for the Sailors were 113-pounder Owen Clayton, who pinned Kyle Stephenson in 2:32; Dylan McConnell, who pinned Adam Johns in 55 seconds at 132; 145-pounder Skyler Curry, who pinned James Scarborough in 3:21; and Marquis Spence, who recorded a 9-4 verdict over Zane Wolf at 195.



Huskies top Bears

UNION CITY — On Wednesday, slew of forfeits led to seven total bouts during a Region 3 meet between Harbor Creek and Union City, with the Huskies walking away with a 48-30 victory.

Of those seven matches, Harbor Creek won five of them, all by pin. The Bears won the 113-pound match, where Nate Jones pinned Kieth Malmgren. The other Union City win came at 145 pounds, where Dustin Tomcho pinned Dalton Grover in 2:49.
