Local Briefs: Trojans pull away from Bulldogs, win 4-0


MEADVILLE — Eagles escape Devils

SHARPSVILLE — Christopher Enos spotted Sharpsville a 1-0 lead in the first half. But Mark McLean snatched that lead away in the second half as Conneaut bested the Blue Devils 2-1 in a Region 1 boys soccer match on Tuesday.

McLean scored both goals for Conneaut (2-6-0) in the second half, both times off assists by Tyler Bone.

Brandon Haylett earned the win in goal for Conneaut, making six saves.

The Eagles put 13 shots on Sharpsville’s goal.

Girls Volleyball

Tigers sweep Orioles

GUYS MILLS — The Maplewood girls volleyball team picked up an easy win Tuesday night at home, sweeping Rocky Grove 25-5-10, 25-6, 25-9 in Region 2 action.

Madalyn Nicols had a strong outing, posting a 9-kill, 6-dig performance. Alyssa Proper and Chelsey Hasbrouck combined for 19 assists for the Tigers, while Lexie Frazier chipped in eight digs in the victory.

Maplewood moves to 4-1, 4-1 Region 2, while Rocky Grove drops to 2-5, 1-4 Region 2.

Saegertown dominates UC

UNION CITY — Mackensie Garris had eight points, three aces and six kills to help lead Saegertown to a Region 2 road victory over Union City Tuesday in girls volleyball action.

The Panthers controlled the match, winning in three games 25-21, 25-15, 25-20.

Maile Chang finished with seven points and 10 assists, Angela Randall added nine points, four aces and 14 assists, and Tori Eckart chipped in seven kills and three blocks in the Saegertown (3-2, 3-2) victory.

Union City (4-4, 2-3) was led by Taylor Miller (16 assists) and Noelle Wienczkowski (11 kills).

The Saegertown junior varsity team also won in three games, 25-21, 23-25, 15-11.

Sailors drop KC

STONEBORO — The Lakeview girls volleyball team made short work of Region 1 foe Kennedy Catholic Tuesday at home, sweeping the Golden Eagles in three games, 25-12, 25-11, 25-21.

Lakeview (5-1, 4-1) was paced by Rachel McKean, who tallied 13 kills. Tia Ray added eight kills and six digs, Taylor Reed finished with 23 assists, and Sam Riddle chipped in nine digs.

In junior varsity action, Lakeview won in two games, 25-14, 25-16.

The latest proposed expansion plan for the Crawford County Courthouse potentially would eliminate the former Tarr Mansion on Diamond Park to make room for a county administrative building. Should the 1860 mansion be demolished?

Try to incorporate it into the proposed expansion.
It’s too far gone to save, but it’s memory may be preserved with an artifacts and photo display within the proposed courthouse complex.
