GOLF: OBGC, Country Club win Crawford Cup titles

GUYS MILLS — The Oakoland Beach women and Country Club men had just too big a lead. As a result, both squads held on to win the team titles after play in the fourth and final round of the  Crawford Cup took place Saturday at Mt. Hope Golf Course.

The OBGC women had a big lead to begin with, entering the final round with a 7 1/2 point lead over the Country Club. With Vicki White (89) winning flight B and Shirley White (90) winning Flight C, the cup was clinched. Cherrie Davis added a second-place finish in Flight A for good measure and to bring the team’s total points to 39.

Venango Valley was second on the day with 10 points and pulled past the Country Club into second with 26 1/2 points. Kathy Hobson’s 86 took the prize in Flight A and was also good for medalist honors. Charlotte Hamilton (91) and Maria Price (92) were second in Fligh B and Flight C, respecitvely.

The Country Club was ended up third with 23 1/2 points, followed by Whispering Pines (16) and Mt. Hope (15).

The Country Club men also had a nice lead, up six on Oakland Beach to start the final round. In the end, OBGC could only make up one point as the Clubbers won the title with 33 1/2 points. Chase Steinbuhler led the charge with a 78 to tie for first in Flight B.

Terry Tidball fired a 70 to win medalist honors and lead Oakland Beach with his Flight A win. Mark Maynard added a 78 to tie for Flight B’s best round.

Rob Trypus’ 79 won Flight C and helped Whispering Pines post the best round of the day. Garrett Kimple added a 75 to place second in Flight A as the Pines finished with eight points for the round and in fourth place overall with 23 points. Venango Valley (24 1/2) placed third and Mt. Hope (18 1/2) was fifth.

A South Carolina woman was arrested recently after the McDonald’s employee let her daughter spend the day playing in a nearby park while she worked her shift. The decision has created a debate over “free-range” parenting and whether it’s a good idea or not. What’s your take?

I’m fine with it. If she cannot afford childcare, what choice does she have?
This is horrible and very bad parenting.
I’m torn. It’s not right what she did, but it sounds like the mother had few other options.
