No longer a surprise, Country Meadows continues quest for back-to-back titles today

Temperatures should be around 74 degrees with a light wind and no precipitation at the 2 p.m. tee-time.
“Everybody kind of struggled at the club because the conditions weren’t great,” Woods said. “There was a 30-mile-an-hour wind and it was chilly. We played pretty solid that day. We’ve got a lot of golf to play this year before we are on top again, though.”
Woods is looking for Oakland Beach and the Country Club to make a move.
The Beach is currently in second place with 11 1/2 points, led by a B Flight-winning 80 from Jim Dupont Sr.
MCC is in third place with 9 1/2 points and is paced by Jeff Byham’s B Flight second-place showing with an 81.
“Oakland and the Country Club, depending on who they send, are always tough,” Woods said.
Country Meadows was also the 2008 champion, somewhat of a surprise considering it was the first year the course had competed in the event.
Last season Mt. Hope built on its already-existing lead at the Pines in Round 2 under similar course conditions.
Sixth-place Whispering Pines would love to make a jump like it did on its home course in 2008. The Pines team slapped 14 1/2 points on the board last year to move up into third place.
The next round will be Sunday, July 12 men at Island Green Golf Course at 1 p.m.
