Magisterial District Judge

-Brianna E. Bortzer, 23, address unlisted, pleaded guilty before Magisterial District Judge Amy Nicols to the charge of use/possession of drug paraphernalia. Titusville police filed the charge for an incident on May 28.

n Virgil C. Birchard Jr., 31, of Grand Valley, waived his right to a preliminary hearing and was bound over to the next term of court on two counts of criminal attempt and one summary charge. Titusville police filed the charges for an incident on June 13. He was released on his own recognizance.

Vernon Township Area

Magisterial District Judge

-Michael C. Brown, 26, of 19747 Bertram Drive, Saegertown, was held for a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Michael Rossi and bound over to the next term of court on charges of statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, unlawful contact with minor, corruption of minors and two counts of indecent assault. Pennsylvania State Police filed the charges for an incident on July 1, 2011, in Greenwood Township. He was placed in Crawford County jail on $30,000 bond.


State Police

-Michelle N. Smathers of Meadville was traveling north on Dutch Hill Road, Union Township at 2 p.m. on Feb. 22 when a vehicle failure caused the vehicle to veer off the road and impact a ditch.

-Nanette T. Grygier, 61, of Springboro was traveling southbound on State Highway 98 in Cussewago Township at 8:10 p.m. on Feb. 21 when she traveled through a large section of standing water that was turning to slush and ice, causing her to lose control, travel off the roadway and strike a snow covered ditch. The vehicle rolled over and came to rest on the driver’s side. Grygier suffered minor injury. She was wearing a seat belt.

-Timothy S. Burt, 50, of Greenville was traveling south on State Route 86 in Woodcock Township at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 21 when he lost control while negotiating a curve after traveling across a large ice patch at the crest of the hill. The car slid out of control and struck a snow covered ditch, causing it to roll over. Burt suffered minor injury. He was wearing a seat belt.
