Here are the outdoors briefs for the week that began Nov. 20

MEADVILLE — BLACK ASH — Black Ash Sportsman hosts public sight-in days on three weekends in November where nonmembers will be able to use the rifle range for sighting in prior to deer season. The dates and times are Saturday, plus Nov. 29 and 30 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday and Dec. 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The cost is $3 per shooter. Shooters are expected to bring their own targets. Sandbags will be available for use as a rifle rest.

Range officers will be on duty at these times to control range activities. The range will be open to members only at times other than those listed above.

Public trap practice

held on Sundays

SAEGERTOWN — The Saegertown Sportsmen’s Club is holding open-to-the-public trap practice on Sundays from 2 to 4:30 p.m.

There will be no shoots on the third Sundays of the month.

More information: Call 763-3773.

JAMESTOWN — Pymatuning State Park hosts a pair of events in December and January, starting with a “Go Girls Archery” event on Dec. 21 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at environmental classroom in the Jamestown Marina.

Girls 10 to 15 years old are invited to learn archery and then put their new skills to work as they walk through a practice target range. Classroom instruction will be followed by hands-on field practice. Class size is limited and the registration deadline is Dec. 12.

The park also holds a “Get Out! Get Healthy! Snowshoe Hike” on Jan. 1 at 10 a.m. at the environmental classroom in the Jamestown Marina. Enjoy a 1.5-mile hike around the shores of Pymatuning.

Organizers will incorporate birding and winter plant identification into the walk and healthy snacks after the hike. If there is snow, those who participate will snowshoe — with no snow, there will be a hike. Contact the Park Office to reserve snowshoes — or bring your own.
