The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission reminds boaters that today marks the first day of mandatory life jacket wearing on boats less than 16 feet in length. This regulation that first went into effect in 2012 states that a person shall wear a Coast Guard-approved personal flotation device (PFD or life jacket) during the cold weather months from Nov. 1 through April 30 while underway or at anchor on boats less than 16 feet in length or any canoe or kayak.
The mission of the state Fish and Boat Commission is to protect, conserve and enhance the Pennsylvania’s aquatic resources and provide fishing and boating opportunities.
