Ann Ellen (Annie) Coughlin McBride

CONNEAUTVILLE — Ann Ellen (Annie) Coughlin McBride, 92, of Conneautville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, in her home surrounded by her family.

She was born Sept. 23, 1920, in Erie, the daughter of Daniel and Margaret Coughlin.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, W. Neil McBride Sr.

In addition to her role as a homemaker, Ann worked outside the home at many jobs. She belonged to numerous organizations, and her winning personality attracted many lifetime friendships. Although she enjoyed socializing, she could be found most often in her kitchen preparing delicious meals and desserts. Her home was always a hub of community and activity. Ann was know for extending gracious hospitality. People who walked through her door left well fed, after sharing stories and laughter.

Ann was know for her smile, her sense of humor, her beautiful red hair and her compassionate spirit. She loved to discuss politics and was always in tune with current events. Beyond her children, she was extremely proud of her service to her country. A World War II veteran, she served in the Army Air Forces. She recently attended a dinner given by the American Legion Post 615, honored as one of the few remaining World War II female veterans.

In addition to her husband, Neil, Ann is survived by her son, Daniel (Jeanie) McBride, daughters Maureen E. McBride and Sheila (Martin) Mahoney, son Shawn McBride, all of Conneautville, son Timothy (Emma) McBride of Ripley N.Y., and Kevin (Shelly) McBride of St. Petersburg, Fla; her sister Margaret Carey and brother Daniel Coughlin, both of Erie; and brother-in-law Joe Mattera of Conneautville.

She was preceded in death by a son, W. Neil (Skip) McBride Jr. of Limerick, Ireland; a daughter, Bridget Mahoney, and a son-in-law, George Mahoney, both of Telford; a granddaughter, Annie Kathleen Mahoney; and her dear friend Bonnie Samuels. Ann also leaves behind 22 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Her 35 nieces and nephews will remember her for the annual cousins’ week hosted on the McBride farm for many years.

Friends may call today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at White-Cool Funeral Home, 1405 Main St., Conneautville.

Mass of Christian burial will celebrated on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 501 Washington St., Conneautville, with Father Dennis Veltri of St. Peter’s as celebrant.

Interment will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery will full military honors.
