Dorothy Law Snyder

MEADVILLE — Dorothy Law Snyder of Meadville, 95, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at Wesbury Grace Health Center.

Dorothy was born in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Willis B. and Sophia C. Law.

She was a graduate of Summit High School (Linesville-Conneaut-Summit High School) and Meadville Commercial College. Dorothy’s career included secretarial work for Talon Zipper, the American Brake Shoe Company, Allegheny College and 31 years in the Assessment Office of Crawford County Courthouse. She retired in 1994.

Dorothy was a member of St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church and the Meadville Medical Center Auxiliary, volunteering many hours over the years. Her favorite event was the annual Mistletoe Ball. She was also a member of the Northwest Council of Republican Women.

Throughout her life, Dorothy was a sports enthusiast. She played basketball in high school and enjoyed golf and swimming. She was an avid fan of hockey, golfer Phil Mickelson and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Dorothy was known by all to have a deep and abiding love for animals. Over the course of her life, she always had pets: dogs, including Penny, and Greggie; and cats, such as Charlie, who were her best friends. The birds around her house were always kept happy with a well-filled feeder. She also enjoyed gardening and keeping her house surrounded by flowers.

Surviving are a much-beloved sister, Florence Law Chu of Marblehead, Mass., with whom she spoke daily; nieces, Elaine Chu of Marblehead and Loretta Chu Craveiro; grandniece, Jette, and grandnephew, Sam, of Beverly, Mass.

A memorial Mass for Dorothy will be at St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, 383 Arch St., Meadville, on Dec. 15, at 10 a.m., with Father Johnathan Schmolt, pastor, as celebrant. Cremation urn burial will follow at St. Agatha’s Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy in Dorothy’s memory may be made to Crawford County Humane Society, 11012 Kennedy Hill Road, Meadville, Pa. 16335.
