Jackson A. Giddens, 77, a resident of Union City, died in Tampa, Fla., on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, from pulmonary complications.
A graduate of Allegheny College, Dr. Giddens went on to earn AM and Ph.D. degrees from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. He was a scholar of First World War propaganda. Following teaching at Allegheny College and MIT, he was appointed a Fellow of the Woodrow Wilson Center for International Studies.
Born in Meadville, he returned to the area after his retirement and traveled to Florida in the winter.
Son of the late Dr. and Mrs. Paul H. Giddens, another former Allegheny College professor, he is survived by his brother, Dr. Thomas R. Giddens of Marblehead, Mass.; his sister, Judith G. White of Washington, D.C.; his nephew, David A. Giddens of Milwaukee, Wis.; and his niece, Ellen G. Walsh of Lakeland, Fla.
