Nancy L. Stallard

SENECA — Nancy L. Stallard, 79, of 116 Linart St., Seneca, died at her residence at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2013, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Born in Cambridge Springs on Aug. 24, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Milton and Ruth Martin Luce.

Nancy was an outstanding student at Cambridge Springs High School, where she was secretary of her sophomore class, participated in the school play and was a recipient of the Scholastic Achievement Award in a nationwide book-keeping contest. She reigned as queen of the Cambridge Springs Independence celebration.

She had been previously employed at Talon until she took off numerous years to raise her family. She returned to the workforce at a later date and worked at First Seneca Bank for seven years and retired from Polk Center as an aide after 19 years.

Her family was very important to her and she spent much of her time supporting their endeavors. She was an avid garage sale and flea market enthusiast. She spent years collecting old bottles and depression-era glass and was known as an authority on antique glassware. She would scour the banks of the Allegheny River after a storm would raise the water level. She enjoyed going to casinos and playing bingo. She was able to tell you where the good games were on any given night and could often tell you what their jackpot was up to. Traveling was a passion that she shared with her husband, Bernie. In 1998 they traveled for 39 days and covered a total of 9,711 miles in their motor home, covering the western states including Alaska. On an earlier trip she had buried her sandals in the sand on Hawaii with hopes of going back to retrieve them someday. She was very proud of the fact that she had dipped her feet in the Pacific Ocean and then came back and dipped them in the Atlantic Ocean. She always kept a detailed account of her travels, beginning with her honeymoon. Her family enjoys reading these accounts and knowing the weather and what the price of a candy bar was in the 1950s.

On May 23, 1953, she was married in Cambridge Springs to Bernard N. Stallard of Saegertown and he survives along with four children and their spouses, Deborah and Dan Martin of Oil City, Bradford and Susie Stallard of Grove City, Gary and Kim Stallard of Reno and Bonnie and David Doby of Broadway, N.C. Thirteen grandchildren also survive, Rachel and husband, Brian, Scott and wife, Toni, Daniel (DJ), Collin and wife, Jackie, Elizabeth, Bradford (Bear), Sarah, Shelley, Andy and wife, Ashley, Emily, Ryan and wife, Natasha, Nicholas and Brittany. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren. A sister, Joan Newark of Cambridge Springs, and a brother, Milton (Bud) and wife, Carol Luce, of Edinboro, also survive. She was preceded by a brother-in-law, Jim Newark.

There will be no viewing. A memorial service will be held today at 11 a.m. in Reinsel Funeral Home & Crematory, 116 Bissell Ave., Oil City. The Rev. Willard Morris of Amity Presbyterian Church of Grove City will preside. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.

Memorials may be made to VNA Hospice or a charity of one’s choice.
