Searcy (Short Man) Caldwell, 88, of 219 Chestnut St., Apt. 303, Meadville, passed away Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, at Crawford County Care Center, Saegertown.
Searcy was born in Forrest City, Ark., on Sept. 15, 1925, a son of the late Sammie Lee and Marthan Shelton Caldwell.
He was baptized at Salem Baptist Church by the Rev. Dudley.
His long-time companion, Delores Feltenberger, preceded him in death on June 7, 1987.
Searcy was a self-employed mason and had also worked for other contractors. He enjoyed playing cards, shooting dice and listening to blues music.
Searcy is survived by a daughter, Leola Green of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a stepdaughter, Charlotte Lucas and her husband, Tim, of California; many stepgrandchildren; a sister, Evelyn Ruth Canada of Kankahee, Ill.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and Delores, Searcy was preceded in death by two stepsons, Ronald Lee Overton and Larry Overton; a stepdaughter, Emmaline Edwards; three sisters, Essie Hamilton, Mahala Spencer and Nevelyn Sanders; a brother, Lessie Caldwell; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to call on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where a Homecoming service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Berta Newsome Jones, pastor of United Faith Fellowship Church, officiating.
