Harold S. Hager

ATLANTIC — Harold S. Hager of 14565 F. Road, Atlantic (Greenwood Township), passed away at 9:05 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 70.

He was born May 15, 1943, in Uniontown, a son of the late W. Donald and Julia Anne Gaskill Hager.

He had attended Meadville Area High School following which he went on to serve as a lance corporal with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1961 to 1965. During his service with the Marines he was stationed in Washington, D.C.

On Sept. 1, 1978, he married the former Twila J. Walker, who survives. He had been employed as a farmer, had owned and operated a saw mill in Vernon Township and later went on to be an owner/operator truck driver.

He was a social member of Vernon Central Hose Company, American Legion Post 368, Titusville, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville. Harold enjoyed gardening, he was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed outdoor cooking and barbecuing on the spit. He was very fond of the times he could share with his children and grandchildren and is remembered by his family as a man who was always willing to lend a hand to others.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years; a daughter, Kim Hyde of Atlantic; two sons, Harold S. (Grump) Hager Jr. of Atlantic and John A. Hager and his wife, Rebecca, of Cochranton; a sister, Gladys Nichols and her husband, Rich, of Meadville, and a brother David L. Hager and his wife, Karen, of Meadville; four grandchildren, Darrin Hyde, Dominic Lowe, Brianna Hager and Aiden Hager; several nieces and nephews; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Germaine Warren.

Friends may call Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 3223 Perry Highway, Sheakleyville, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to share memories and condolences online at rlsfh.com.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with pastor Ken Hough of Watson Run Church of God officiating. The committal service and interment with military honors accorded by the VFW Post 2006 Honor Guard will follow at Kiser Hill Cemetery.

The family has suggested that memorial tributes may be made to Hospice of Crawford County, 464 Pine St., Meadville, Pa. 16335.
