Fern W. Schweitzer

UNION CITY — Fern W. Schweitzer, 92, of Route 8, Union City, was called home by the Lord on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, at Titusville Area Hospital.

She was born May 12, 1921 in Schickley, Neb., a daughter of the late William and Mabel Augustine Stoltzfus.

Fern was raised and educated in Schickley, and in 1937, she moved with her family to the Spartansburg area. Fern married LeRoy Schweitzer on Feb. 13, 1939, in Conneaut Lake, and stayed home to raise and care for her family. She later worked for Elgin Electronics for several years and she also helped her husband on the family dairy farm in Centerville.

Fern was a member of Valley View Mennonite Church, the Women’s Mennonite Sewing Circle and enjoyed working in the church kitchen. She also enjoyed quilting, reading and doing puzzles.

In addition to her parents, Fern was preceded in death on Sept. 25, 1986, by her husband, LeRoy; three sisters, Gladys Yoder, Bernetta Hennigh and Florence Schrock; a brother, Floyd Stoltzfus; and a great-granddaughter, Mallory Curtis.

Fern is survived by two daughters, Roberta Miller and her husband, David, of Meadville, and Janet Miller and her husband, Terry, of Union City; two sons, Milton L. Schweitzer and his wife, Drescilla, of Spartansburg, and Darrel L. Schweitzer and his wife, Christine, of Centerville; a sister, Alverda Swope of Leetonia, Ohio; and three brothers, Reuben Stoltzfus of Souderton, Gerald Stoltzfus of Lititz and Merlin Stoltzfus of Corry. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to call at Valley View Mennonite Church, 24313 Route 89 and 77, Spartansburg, on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service there at 11 a.m. Pastor Robb Esh will officiate.

Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Spartansburg.
