HARTSTOWN — James Louis Roemer III,  77, of Hartstown, formerly of Poland, Ohio, passed away Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, in his residence after a courageous four-year battle with cancer. 

He was born in Youngstown, Ohio, on Nov. 13, 1935, to James Louis Roemer Jr. and Kathryn Hazel (Ralston) Roemer.

He was a 1954 graduate of Struthers (Ohio) High School and had attended Kent State University. 

He retired in 1996 from J.B. Hunt Transport, where he was employed as a team driver with his wife, doing over-the-road and just-in-time deliveries. He was previously employed for 31 years as a thread engineer in quality control at LTV Steel-Campbell Works.

He had attended High Street Community Church, Conneaut Lake. He very much enjoyed the outdoors, taking care of his property and the quiet times spent at the pond. Highlights in his life include a company trip to China in 1982 and tours to Israel in 2010 and 2012. 

He married the former Donna Mae Burket on Feb. 14, 1960. She survives at home.

Also surviving is a daughter, Julie Roemer-Tokie and her husband, Mark, of Conover, Ohio; two sons, James L. Roemer IV of Greensburg, and Jeffrey L. Roemer and his wife, Patti, of Poland, Ohio; a sister, Joann Creed and her husband, Richard, of Struthers, Ohio; and grandchildren Jeffrey Roemer, Jillian Roemer and Jacob Roemer, all of Poland, James Roemer V and his wife, Kriste, of Greensburg, Jenna Roemer of Warren, Ohio, and Brianna Tokie of Conover, Ohio. 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 12 at High Street Community Church, 9517 Route 322, Conneaut Lake, with the Rev. William Rogers officiating. 

There will be no calling hours. All family and friends are invited to a luncheon in the church social hall immediately following the service.

Burial will be private in Diehl’s Crossroads Church Cemetery, Blair County.
