Frank A. Coscia

ERIE — Frank A. Coscia, formerly of Meadville and Holly Hill, Fla., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013.

He was born Oct. 26, 1919, in Meadville, a son of the late Marie and Peter Coscia.

Mr. Coscia proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. Upon return from serving his country, he began his career as a meat cutter, retiring from Kroger’s after 31 years.

Along with his wife, Loretta, they owned and operated the Rocking Chair Gift Shoppe, Frank’s Auction and Flea Market, Frank’s Palace Restaurant and Mama Mia’s Pizzaria, all in the Meadville area, as well as being a vendor for several years at the Crawford County Fair. Additionally, they donated their time and resources to several charitable organizations including the local chapter of the American Cancer Society and Sertoma Club.

He coached Little League baseball, bowled, hunted, golfed, played cards, and loved to dance. He always like to keep busy and could often be found “puttering around” especially in his tool shed.

He was a lifetime member of the Italian Civic Club, and also a member of the Elks and Eagles clubs. He enjoyed traveling around the United States and abroad, as well as spending time at his place in Florida. During the summers, he loved spending the time with his family and he was often on the golf course right up to early this summer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Loretta (Barker) Coscia; two sisters, Kelly Gibbs and Marie (Mimi) Martin; and a brother, Norman Coscia.

He will be deeply missed by his family including children Peter (Tom) Coscia and his wife, Sheree, of Saegertown, Rodney Coscia and his wife, Vicky, of Conneaut Lake, and Kathryn Burns and her husband, Kevin, of Erie; grandchildren Jackie (Ken) Coscia Horm, Damian Coscia, Frank (Diana) Coscia II, and Kaitlin and Conor Burns; and four great-grandchildren. Additionally, from a prior marriage, he is survived by Gail (Paul) Marko; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association or the Wounded Warriors Project.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Sept. 28 at 11 a.m. at Saegertown United Methodist Church, 620 Euclid Ave., Saegertown.

Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 W. 38th St., Erie, is in charge of arrangements.
